It’s not easy to reach Brandon Straub these days. The 32-year-old doesn’t own a cellphone, let alone a landline, and recently, his days revolve around finding buyers for the belongings he's selling on Craigslist. With $30,000 in student loans, among other debts, he’s planning to file for bankruptcy. Straub, a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, is one of nearly 40,000 students affected by one of the largest collapses of a for-profit college.
